A business operating system for small trade firms · British Columbia
Do you know what an hour of your crew actually costs?
Most owners price off the wage. The real number carries burden, vehicles, insurance, callbacks, and every hour nobody bills. The gap between the two is usually where the year went.
KingsleyOS is the number, built from your own books, on your phone — with an operator who reads it with you every month.
The problem
You can run a firm for fifteen years, make money every one of them, and still not be able to say which work paid and which work cost you.
A bookkeeper tells you what happened. A coach gives you opinions. Neither one sets your prices. So the quote gets written at the kitchen table on Sunday night, off the wage plus a markup that hasn't been checked since the truck was new.
What you get
The software — the container
- Five tabs: Today, Quotes, Pipeline, Jobs, Your Numbers. Installs to your phone's home screen. No app store, no password, no new logins.
- A client-facing quote page: a clean document with a scope paragraph and correct GST. Your client approves; the job is created.
- Today shows four readings — Pricing, Flow, Delivery, Cash — with one plain-English exception line.
- Your data exports to a file you own, every night. No QuickBooks sync, by design.
The operator — the product
- Pieter builds your real cost model from your last twelve months of jobs, quotes and invoices: three overhead pools, separate shop and field crew-hour rates.
- Your quote templates are repriced against it before go-live.
- Ninety minutes a month reading the numbers with you and naming one change. A half-day each quarter.
- Every January, prices reset against what the year actually cost.
How it works
| Step | What happens | Price |
|---|---|---|
| Trade Business Diagnostic | Ten questions answered from the truck. One page back, reviewed by Pieter, naming a dollar figure on what you can't currently see. If there's nothing there, it says so. About eight minutes. | Free |
| Operator Call | Twenty minutes walking the read together and scoping the work. Not every firm is a fit — this is where both sides find out. | Free |
| The Kingsley Install | Four weeks. Cost model built from your own data, quote templates repriced, system live on your phone in your shop. One hour of training. About five hours of your time in total. | $4,900 crew (4–10) · $2,900 solo (1–3) |
| Operating Retainer | The system plus the monthly ninety-minute review, quarterly half-day, and January price reset. First quarter bundled with the install. | $690/mo crew · $440/mo solo |
Prices in Canadian dollars, plus GST.
Who it's for
One-man operations up to ten-person crews doing job-based work — decks, renovations, envelope, mechanical, landscaping — and firms that fabricate as well as install: millwork, cabinetry, stairs, steel, glazing, signage.
The common thread: you're still quoting at the kitchen table on Sunday night. If that's not you, Pieter says so on the call.
Straight answers
- Your data exports to a file you own, every night. Nothing to escape from if you leave.
- I never touch your money. You invoice and get paid exactly as you do now.
- Your costs and clients stay sealed off from every other firm I work with.
- No app store, no password, no new logins. It's an icon on your phone.
- I'm not a bookkeeper and I don't replace yours. I set your prices; they keep your books.
The operator
Pieter Schoeman has worked in construction since 2003, as a subtrade, a general contractor, a cost consultant, and an owner's representative. He runs Kingsley Advisory Group, an independent construction advisory practice in Langley, British Columbia. KingsleyOS is what happens when that cost discipline is pointed at a six-person firm instead of a sixty-million-dollar tower.
